Mermaid

The little mermaid is a top favorite of mine, so I thought I'd do my own mermaid slightly in the style on it :D

It was seriously a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it ^_^ Every now and than you have to take a break from commissions and serious projects and just draw something for the love of drawing.

Art Test

I just completed two images for an art test for a job in San Francisco. I hope they like it! Worked my butt off on um :D

The first image was a splash page mock up in the style of the Angry Birds, except a penguin game LOL I had a blast with this. I always knew seagulls were evil, every since I was a little (extremely perceptive) child. Lol!

The second image is done in illustrator, it's Justin Bieber in the style of Ameba Pigg. LOL It was so fun. I felt like such a little fan girl googling tons of pictures of Justin Bieber.

<3 I loved doing this art test.

Powerpets Before & After

So for those who don't know, Powerpets kind of looked... well... I'll just show you. Here's what Powerpets looked like *before* I got to redo the layout.

*ahem* So here is Powerpets layout before. This was a template, we would changed a couple of the colors every month and the character in the top left corner. Honestly, I hated the whole thing, I especially hated that berry blue background!

So when I got the opportunity to team up with the programmer and make a new, much more appealing look for Powerpets, I created a base design and *finally* we got the site looking like this.

What a huge difference huh? There were a couple things we fought a bit on. It took a little convincing to get them to give up the icons on the top bar ;) But I finally convinced them it was really better to use words. It was more direct and user-friendly.

With PAW I faced a totally new challenge, since the site seeks to raise money through ads for animal shelters, the challenge is created a layout that looks cute and modern, while pulling in ads, without it looking a mess. Here was the base we started with.

This really wasn't so bad, it was just boring. And a little over-cluttered.

So with a little dedicated hard work, we reached this. :) Which included all necessary information while looking a little more fun, and a little less cluttered.

Waiter Dan

I wanted to show my process from sketch to fully rendered drawing. So I created a quick character, meet Waiter Dan. He loves his job. I'm thinking of making him the presketch for Emma's Dad (Emma from my WIP Project Monster Hunt that I've mentioned in other posts like this one showing Emma with her older sister Ada.

Dan just wants things to run smoothly at the upscale restaurant he works at. He's happily content in his position. With such a precise personality, you have to know he has a comic foil... I'm thinking of designing this character for him. Maybe a short little guy who (while he means well) screws everything up and wreaks havoc where ever he goes.

Yellow Wallpaper

Sketch for a digital painting I'm doing as a mock-cover for The Yellow Wallpaper. I wanted to do something rather different than what's already in my portfolio.

This will be fun! My benchmarks for style are Manet, and just the Victorian era-art :D Maybe a little Rococo.

Final Preview for the night, started the painting :D

Sketching based off Book Descriptions

Since I *love* to read, and Tamora Pierce will forever be one of my favorite authors I was working on a little sketch of her character Daine from the Immortals series.

I don't normally like to post unfinished work/sketches but I'm making an effort xD

There is a new Powerpets Pet Background

This one was designed specifically for the pet Tasmanian Tiger.

I based it off photos of Tasmania. The Thylacine ( also known as a Tasmanian Tiger) is a pet I really wanted on Powerpets, to help raise awareness to recent animal extinctions, especially since so much of their extinction was caused by human hunting (a bounty put on the heads of Thylacines caused over 2,100 to be killed for sure, with more possible, in just under 30 years. This means a Thylacine was killed just about every 5 days). The species was officially made a protected species just 59 days before the last known Thylacine died.

We all known of the extinction of the Dinosaurs, but it's hard to make a real connection with beasts that we have drawings and bones from, but little else. They lived so long ago it is hard to truly imagine having possibly saved them. I believed the Thylacines would help younger players grasp the idea of extinction being preventable, given that they went extinct recently enough to have photographs of them, and it doesn't hurt they were awful cute.

Wonder what's happening on Powerpets?

Not only did a mysterious banner (made by me ;) hehe) appear on Powerpets.com Homepage predicting something is coming August 25th... some dark fog has appeared on the World Map! And clicking on it leads you to this (which I also made :D)...

Hope the dolphins are okay! That looks like something pretty nasty coming in on the Horizon!

Beat Hazzard Banner

Check out my Beat Hazzard Banner Animation which is now on the front page of www.Powerpets.com!

This banner features one of the activities on Powerpets, where you can sneak by Hazzard the bulldog to grab some 'junk' from Padam's Shack. (Because diamonds are very much junk Lol) Padam is Powerpet's resident villain.

Tried something new just for fun :)

Well since I'm catching up on commissions and can't post any of my current work (it's secret until release, although I am excited for my art promoting www.Powerpets.com to be on the new GoCash Game Cards to be sold all over Canada & Mexico!) I thought I'd show off something goofy I did today.

I had to help my sister shop for some shoes and I saw those incredibly high heels (You know, the ones that scare people who are afraid of heights) and I thought to myself "You know, I've always thought those looked scary, and like you'd break your ankle... But I wonder how hard they really are to walk in/how uncomfortable they are") So I tried them on.

I was astonished to find.. They weren't uncomfortable, and they weren't hard to walk in. Actually I have 3 inch heels that are less comfortable... So I guess it's not the size of the heel that counts, but how well it's made!

Of course... It also depends a lot on how you walk. While I'm not a high-heel regular, a girl in the aisle next to me almost broke her ankle, two of the clerks at the store went running to check on her and I peeked around the aisle and a relieved clerk told me "She's fine, a girl trying on the same shoes, I thought she broke her ankle!" So, I guess they aren't for everybody.

I almost bought them... Until I realized I couldn't think of a single place where I'd wear a pair of 5 inch platform heels. Anyway that's my fun story for the day. Scary looking platform heels, not that scary.
